Is this really free, with no sign up?

Yes, and the download button is the honest test. Most invoice generators let you fill in the whole form and then spring the trap at the last click: create an account to download, or pay to remove the watermark angled across your total. PlainInvoice has no account system to sign up for. You fill in the form, the PDF downloads. Every field is available: line items, tax with an editable label, any currency, your logo, notes for bank details. The one piece of branding is a small grey line in the PDF footer that says Made with PlainInvoice.

Where does my invoice data go?

Nowhere, and we can prove it the same way EverQR does: load this page, disconnect from the internet, and the tool keeps working. The form, the totals and the PDF are all built by JavaScript on your device. Your client list, your rates and your bank details are exactly the kind of data a server should never see, so there is no server. The draft you are working on autosaves to your browser's local storage, which lives on your machine. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and the invoice is still there. Clear your browser data and it is gone, because we never had a copy.

Why no watermark? What is the catch?

A watermark on a free tier is a hostage note. The tool already did the work; the smear across your total exists only to embarrass you in front of a client until you subscribe. Since PlainInvoice runs entirely in your browser, each invoice costs us nothing to produce, and there is no per-document cost to claw back. So the free PDF is simply clean. The catch, if you want to call it that, is the footer line and the hope that frequent invoicers find the $7 upgrade worth it.

What is the $7 for, then?

Memory, mostly. The free tool is complete but forgets things between invoices, by design, because remembering would otherwise mean a server and an account. Invoice Pro keeps the remembering on your device: saved clients you can load in a click, saved business profiles with logo, invoice numbers that keep counting across sessions, a second more formal PDF template, and the option to drop the footer line. It is $7 once, not per month. Payments go through Stripe, the license is a token in your browser, and there is a 7-day no-questions refund.
